Chapter 11
Sean
âYou expecting a bunch of drag queens to come through that door any minute?â
The odd question had my head snapping around to stare at Jake. âWhat?â
What kind of stupid-ass question was that? But considering he was technically my boss when I was working, I tried not to call him names.
Jake laughed. âYouâve been checking that door every five minutes for the last hour. Youâre clearly expecting someone.â
I sighed, then gave up trying to keep my life private. âMiles is stopping by after work.â
When heâd left the house earlier, weâd decided heâd come by the bar after work and then weâd head home together. I hadnât wanted him driving those back roads in the dark until heâd gotten used to them, and heâd been willing to accommodate my worries. Besides, heâd said that having a chance to relax would be nice.
I was hoping that heâd actually start talking to people, but I wouldnât hold my breath. He had people-watching down to a science and didnât seem interested in giving that up.
âAhh, Mister Rogers is coming back specifically for you this time?â Jake wasnât bothering to hide his grin.
âYes.â I decided to just take the plunge and get it over with before Miles arrived. âHeâs going to spend the week with me. He needs a break, so heâs going to come stay in my guest room.â
Jake snorted. âGuest room, huh?â
âYep.â I wouldnât deny that I was curious to see what would happen over the week, but Iâd never push. Miles was forthright enough that heâd tell me exactly what he was ready forâand right now, all he was ready for was peace and a place to figure shit out.
âOkay then.â He just shook his head. âYou going to need time off this week?â
The question sounded painful as it came out of his mouth. I laughed. âThat hurt, didnât it?â
âHell, yeah.â
âWell, no worries, Iâm not changing my schedule. He needs to relax, not have me hovering all over him this week.â As enticing as the idea sounded, I knew Iâd drive him nuts.
âProbably a good idea.â Jake chuckled then leaned back against the bar and surveyed the room, his eyes landing on the new waiter. âIs he working out?â
âThatâs a stupid question.â Okay, so maybe that wasnât the best way to talk to a boss.
Jake didnât mind, though. Barking out a laugh, he cocked his head and watched the cute new server work the room. âI almost didnât offer him the job. Something about him justâ¦â
Just drove him nutsâthat had been why Iâd made sure the sexy cutie had gotten the job.
Something about the way theyâd watched each other said it was more than just sexual chemistry. âThe guys like him, and he works the room really well without tempting them too much.â
He was a natural flirt, but he didnât seem to be the type that Iâd have to constantly pull out of the storage room because heâd been giving a customer a BJ in the back of the bar. âAnd heâs getting shit done.
